Tiered AI Trust Architecture in the MAP¶
From Personal Sovereignty to Planetary-Scale Trust¶
The MAP enables sovereign use of AI at every scale—from individuals to global systems—by structuring trust, exposure, and capability as explicit, enforceable choices rather than hidden risks.
Purpose¶
This section defines the MAP’s Tiered AI Trust Architecture, a structured approach to safely using AI systems—especially large language models (LLMs)—without compromising data sovereignty.
It begins at the personal level, because:
All trust is built from the bottom up.
But the same architecture applies at every scale—from individuals to organizations to entire ecosystems.
Start With the Individual¶
The easiest way to understand this model is to start with a single person.
You have your own I-Space—your personal digital interior:
- your messages
- your files
- your activity streams
- your health data
- your knowledge graph
All of it is represented as structured, self-describing data that an AI assistant could potentially access.
Now imagine introducing an AI assistant into that space.
That creates a fundamental question:
How much of yourself are you willing to expose—and to whom?
The Hidden Risk: AI as a Data Channel¶
Most people think of AI as something they “use.”
But in reality, every interaction is also a data transfer.
- prompts carry information
- attachments carry information
- conversations accumulate information
If that AI connects to external systems, it becomes a potential exfiltration pathway.
Even tools that appear local can silently route data outward.
This is where the MAP introduces a different approach.
Three Tiers of AI Trust¶
Instead of hiding the tradeoffs, MAP makes them explicit.
There are three ways an AI assistant can exist relative to your I-Space:
- Tier 1 — Fully Sovereign (Local Only)
- Tier 2 — Trusted Commons (Shared but Governed)
- Tier 3 — External AI (Exospheric)
Each tier represents a different balance between:
- AI capability
- data exposure
- and trust
Tier 1 — Sovereign AI (Inside Your I-Space)¶
Here, the AI runs entirely within your own space.
- It can access your data (if you allow it)
- It can learn about you deeply
- It can assist you in highly personalized ways
But:
It cannot communicate outside your space.
No external connections.
No hidden data flows.
No exfiltration.
Tradeoff¶
- Maximum privacy
- Maximum personalization
- Limited AI power (constrained by your own compute)
Tier 2 — AI Commons (Trusted Shared Spaces)¶
Here, you step beyond your personal environment.
You interact with AI systems hosted by other agents—individuals, cooperatives, or organizations—inside the MAP.
These providers:
- have identities
- make explicit promises
- enter into agreements
- build reputations
And crucially:
They operate within membrane-bound environments that can be restricted from the outside world.
You don’t give full access immediately.
You:
- start with limited exposure
- expand access as trust is earned
- revoke access if trust is broken
Tradeoff¶
- Strong AI capability
- Controlled exposure
- Trust mediated through agreements and reputation
Tier 3 — External AI (The Exosphere)¶
This is the world most people interact with today.
Large AI systems:
- run outside your control
- do not have MAP identities
- cannot enter into enforceable agreements
You cannot form a trust channel with them.
Instead, you make a unilateral choice:
You decide what you are willing to share, knowing you cannot control what happens next.
Default Safe Mode: Public Anonymous Data¶
A safe baseline is to share only information that:
- you are comfortable making public
- does not require attribution
- carries no expectation of privacy
Tradeoff¶
- Maximum AI power
- Minimal control
- Highest exposure risk
Scaling the Model Beyond the Individual¶
Everything above applies not just to individuals—but to any agent.
And in MAP:
An I-Space is simply the interior of an agent.
That agent could be:
- a person
- a team
- an organization
- a network of organizations
- an entire ecosystem
Organizations as I-Spaces¶
An organization has its own interior:
- internal documents
- communications
- operational data
- financial records
- strategic plans
It can deploy AI in exactly the same three tiers:
Organizational Tier 1¶
- AI runs on infrastructure owned by the organization
- full access to internal data (if allowed)
- no external connectivity
→ Maximum security, limited external intelligence
Organizational Tier 2¶
- AI services provided by trusted partners within the MAP
- governed by agreements
- constrained by trust channels
- access granted incrementally
→ Shared capability with bounded risk
Organizational Tier 3¶
- External AI providers (cloud LLMs)
- no enforceable agreements
- reliance on unilateral trust
→ Maximum power, maximum exposure
The Holarchy of Trust¶
MAP introduces the idea of an empowered agent holarchy:
- individuals within groups
- groups within organizations
- organizations within ecosystems
- ecosystems within the planetary field
At every level:
- each agent has an I-Space
- each I-Space has a membrane
- each membrane governs flows
- each interaction is mediated by agreements
And at every level:
The same three-tiered AI trust model applies.
Why This Matters for Scale¶
This is how MAP scales trust:
Not by centralizing control,
but by repeating a simple pattern:
- sovereign interiors
- explicit boundaries
- negotiated relationships
- revocable trust
From one person…
…to a team…
…to an organization…
…to a global network.
The Core Tradeoff Remains¶
Across all scales, the same tension holds:

Revocation and Adaptation¶
At every level, trust is not permanent.
It is:
- granted
- tested
- expanded
- or withdrawn
This makes the system adaptive.
Relationship to Responsibility¶
This architecture works hand-in-hand with the Delegated Agency Responsibility Model.
Because:
- AI agents act within membranes
- permissions are explicitly granted
- external actions are constrained
Responsibility remains anchored:
Agents act through you, not instead of you.
